GREENE—- The West Fork Warhawks football team lost to the North Butler Bearcats 36-14 to fall to 1-2 on the year. The game was pretty competitive in the first half as North Butler led 8-0 after the first quarter.
STATE CENTER— The Hampton-Dumont-CAL Bulldogs football team moved to 3-0 on the year following a close 16-13 win over the West Marshall Trojans on Sept. 13.
HAMPTON---- The Hampton-Dumont-CAL Bulldogs football team started the season with a 13-0 win over the Iowa Falls-Alden Cadets on Aug. 30.
It took until the fourth quarter for any points to be scored as neither team was able to get much going on offense throughout the first three quarters. The Bulldogs held the Cadets to 57 passing yards and 71 rushing yards. The Bulldogs also had two interceptions both in the final quarter.
Heading into the season, the West Fork Warhawks boys cross country team has a goal of being in the top part of the conference according to head coach Zachary Ortloff.
WAVERLY—- The West Fork Warhawks football team started where they left off last year as the Warhawks defeated the Clayton Ridge Eagles 32-6 in the season opener on Aug. 30.
The game was tied 6-6 after the first quarter, but the Warhawks took a 12-6 lead in the second quarter and that would be the score at halftime. The Warhawks then made it 20-6 in the third quarter and outscored the Eagles 12-0 in the fourth quarter.
With the season about to start for the West Fork Warhawks girls cross country team, head coach Laura Huber said that the team will have seven runners on the varsity squad which will allow them to score as a team.
The season for the West Fork Warhawks volleyball team begins on Aug. 29. at 7 p.m. at home vs Hampton-Dumont-CAL. Last year the Warhawks finished 6-22 on the year and this season there will be a lot of new faces as the Warhawks lost eight seniors to graduation. Head coach Emily Greimann said that one goal for the team this year is to be able to compete with some of the teams at the top of the conference.
After finishing the season 3-6 last year, West Fork Warhawks football head coach Daniel Westhoff said that the goal is for the Warhawks to keep the momentum going as they finished the season with two wins in a row. Westhoff said that another goal is to be more competitive with the teams in the district and compete for a playoff spot with a .500 or better record.
Heading into the upcoming season Hampton-Dumont-CAL Bulldogs volleyball head coach Sarah Miller said that one thing the team is looking for this year is to be more consistent especially on offense. Last year the Bulldogs went 11-23 and the Bulldogs had their first game on Aug. 20. at Belmond-Klemme.
With the volleyball season starting on Aug. 29 at home vs Hampton-Dumont-CAL, the West Fork Warhawks volleyball team was getting ready for the start of the season thanks to a couple of summer camps this past week. Head coach Emily Greimann said that the first camp on Wednesday had retired Ankeny volleyball head coach Dave Whims run the camp.
For the first time during the summer the West Fork Warhawks boys cross country ran together in a summer program. Head coach Zachary Ortloff said that they usually give the runners a program to follow during the summer but it was nice to have a voluntary program like this.
After barely missing the postseason last year with a record of 5-4, the Hampton-Dumont-CAL Bulldogs football team is getting ready for the upcoming season. The Bulldogs have a scrimmage at Mason City on Aug. 23. At 7 p.m. and their first game is on Aug. 30. at home vs Iowa Falls-Alden at 7 p.m. Head coach Cole Miller said that the team lost a large senior class so a goal for this year is to get as much experience as possible.
The West Fork Warhawks saw a big improvement from a 5-17 record in 2023 to a 12-14 record this year which saw the Warhawks make it to the Class 1A Substate 3 Semifinal. Head coach Kayden Ames said he was very pleased with how the season went.
The West Fork Warhawks softball team made history on July 15, as the team defeated Hudson 3-0 in the Class 2A Region 6 Championship game to advance to the Class 2A State Quarterfinal. The Warhawks played Van Meter in the Quarterfinal on July 23. Head coach Sadie Winfrey said it is the first time that a softball team has made it to the state tournament when the school is known as West Fork.
The season may be over for the Hampton-Dumont-CAL Bulldogs softball team as they ended the year with a record of 7-17, and head coach Kelsey Enslin said that the team had some high notes and low notes.
The West Fork Warhawks baseball team went 1-1 during their run in the postseason after defeating the Colo-Nesco Royals 15-5 in the 1A Substate 3 second round game on July 9. The Warhawks then lost to the Newman Catholic Knights 4-2 on July 13 to end the season with a record of 12-14.
