After a strong showing last year that ended in a loss to Webster City in the Class 2A Substate 2 championship game. The Hampton-Dumont-CAL Bulldogs boys soccer team has its eyes set on repeating that success. The Bulldogs went 11-6 last year and heading into this season head coach Danielle Arana said that when it comes to the returning players this season that while they had playing time that some of the returning players were not starters.

With the season under way for the Hampton Dumont-CAL Bulldogs girls tennis team co head coaches Chad Johnson and Staci Johnson said that their goals for the team is to get better throughout the season and to have fun.
 
“I think we saw it in the first week of practice,” Chad said. “I also think that through the game we had on Thursday night that in each set I saw some improvement.” 
 

HAMPTON—- The season did not start the way they would have liked for the Hampton-Dumont-CAL Bulldogs girls soccer team. The team fell to the Iowa Falls-Alden Cadets 10-0 at home on March 28.

The season was one that saw the West Fork Warhawks boys wrestling grow throughout the year according head coach Daniel Westhoff. Westhoff said that the Warhawks faced a lot of adversity and that the team was young as well with three freshmen wrestling varsity matches.
“They took their lumps but I was happy with the growth and development they made,” Westhoff said. “There were some positives for sure.”

With the season starting for the West Fork Warhawks boys track season at the Dickinson Relays on March 4.  Head coach Caleb Hovenga said that a goal for the team is to get as many people to qualify for state as they can. 
 
“We have been a little light there the last few years so getting a few more guys down there with the experience we are bringing back that doesn’t seem like a crazy goal by any mean,” Hovenga said.
 

With the season starting at the Dickinson Relays on March 5. The Hampton-Dumont-CAL girls track and field team are getting ready for the season. Head coach Nicole Donnenwerth said that the team has 12 girls on it heading into their first meet and that the team can do well in the events they are participate in.

With the season over for the Hampton-Dumont-CAL Bulldogs girls basketball team head coach Miranda Stafford said that the season was a successful one where she saw a lot of growth throughout the year.
 

CHARLES CITY— The game started off well but a strong fourth quarter by Charles City was enough for the Hampton-Dumont-CAL Bulldogs boys basketball team to lose to the Charles City Comets 54-46 on Feb. 15. The Bulldogs fell to 12-9 on the year. The Bulldogs led 9-5 after the first quarter but were outscored by the Comets 19-17 in the second quarter to make it a 26-24 game at halftime.

SHEFFIELD—- The West Fork Warhawks boys basketball season continues after a 64-47 win over the Baxter Bolts in the second round of the Class 1 A region 3 tournament at home on Feb. 15. The Warhawks improved to 19-4 on the year. The win helped get the monkey off the back for the Warhawks as head coach Trent Trask said that in the last couple of years the second round of regionals has been a hurdle for the Warhawks.
 

HAMPTON—- Time ran out for the Hampton-Dumont-CAL Bulldogs boys basketball team as they fell short in their comeback attempt during a 62-61 loss to Algona on Feb. 9. The Bulldogs dropped to 12-7 on the year.
 

STORY CITY—-- The shots did not seem to fall for the Hampton-Dumont-CAL girls basketball team as the season came to an end following a 54-27 loss to the Roland-Story Norsemen during the Class 3A Region 4 game on Feb. 10. The Bulldogs end the season with a record of 11-11 on the year.

SHEFFIELD—- The West Fork Warhawks girls basketball team held on to advance after defeating the South Hardin Tigers 56-52 at home in the first round of the Class 2A Region 2 tournament on Feb. 10. The Warhawks improved to 13-9 on the year.

INDEPENDENCE—- The success continues for the Hampton-Dumont-CAL Bulldogs boys wrestling team as the team took the Class 2A District 5 championship on Feb. 10. after taking first place out of eight teams with a score of 183.5 points. It was a close one but the Bulldogs were able to hang on to win as second place team Independence finished with 181.5 points.

MASON CITY—- The Hampton-Dumont-CAL and West Fork girls wrestling team competed at the Regional Qualifier 7 meet at Mason City on Jan 26. The team took 14th place out of 18 teams with a score of 50.0 points. Teaghan Bird took sixth place in the 115-lbs weight class, Preslee Dickman took sixth place in the 130-lbs weight class, Jenny Ramirez had an unknown place in the 155-lbs weight class.

SHEFFIELD— While it was a close game in the first quarter, the West Fork Warhawks boys basketball team pulled away in the second quarter and never looked back as the Warhawks defeated the North Butler Bearcats 70-34 on Jan. 2. The Warhawks improved to 6-2 on the year.
