Hampton Police Officer Gilberto Luna, Jr. Graduates 310th Basic Academy

Hampton Police Officer Gilberto Luna, Jr. has graduated from the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy’s 310th Basic Academy. Luna was presented his certificate of graduation by ILEA Director Brad Carney in a ceremony Friday, August 18th, at Valley Church in West Des Moines, Iowa.

Team Ryder and Goose had their moment in the sun Saturday at the Iowa State Fair so to speak, lining up with Governor Kim Reynolds and 23 other teams to compete in the 47th Annual Governor’s Charity Steer Show.
 

Library Board Seeks to Fill Vacancies

The City of Hampton is seeking to fill four vacancies on the Hampton Library Board of Trustees and has begun taking applications for the vacant seats. Board terms are for four years. 

City Council Votes to Proceed on $2.1 Million Project

The Hampton City Council voted to proceed on a major public works project Thursday Aug 10th by voting yes on resolutions 2023-20 and 2023-21.  The yes votes allow the city to proceed on the project before a looming rate reset would add $175,000 to the cost. The project has been in the works for approximately three years. 
 

Franklin County Cattlemen and Barkema Trust Sponsor Grand Champion Steer for Governor’s Steer Show and Auction Aug 12th

The Foster and Evelyn Barkema Charitable Trust and the Friends of the Franklin County Cattlemen will once again sponsor a steer at the Iowa State Fair in the upcoming 41st Governor's Charity Steer Show, (GCSS), and auction. The 1260 lb steer, Goose, was raised by Nadine Klaffke of Hardin county, and both earned the right to show after Goose won the Grand Champion Steer award at the Franklin County Fair.

Cabaret Stops in Hampton, Plays the Windsor

An old fashioned, but newfangled genuine traveling cabaret stopped through Hampton on Wednesday August 2nd. The troupe was brought here by a chartered bus from Osage courtesy of the Franklin County Arts Council who hosted the nine members of the Cedar Summerstock Theatre (CST) and ensemble at the Windsor Theatre.
 

First Bank Hampton Celebrates 90 years of Serving the Community

First Bank Hampton Celebrated 90 years of doing business in Franklin County with a block party August 4th. Lines stretched around the corner to enter as the public turned out for music by Lincoln Highway, burgers grilled by the Franklin County Cattlemen and Ice Cream provided by Rae’s Lighthouse. 
 

Mural Unfurls in Hampton

Hampton’s newest mural was formally dedicated Thursday July 27th in a ceremony that included a ribbon cutting and photo ops followed by a dedication dinner at First and Second Vintage Too!   The mural measures 22 x 9 ft and is painted on the north side of First and Second Vintage Too! at 122 1st street NW, a space offered willingly by building owner and enthusiastic supporter of the project Jerre Grefe. 
 

Olive Ave Bridge Project Scheduled Into November

The Olive Ave Bridge south of Sheffield which was closed for repairs by Franklin County Engineer's Department November 14th, 2022, will remain closed into November 2023 according to a recent update from County Engineer Jay Waddingham. The Bridge is located between 240th St and 250th St and spans Bailey Creek.

Relay for Life Set for Friday in Sheffield

The 2023 Franklin County Relay for Life is Friday, July 28 from 5-10 PM.  The walk will be held at the West Fork High School football track at 1475 255th St., Sheffield.  This year's theme is "Give Cancer the Boot"   Honorary chairs are Scott Conlon and Gary Schoning.

New Hampton Mural Taking Shape

A new mural is being painted in Hampton and is the result of a planned effort to bring communities together through arts and culture. The mural is being painted on the 2nd Ave NW side First and Second Vintage Too! which sits at the corner of 2nd Ave NW and 1st st NW in downtown Hampton.
