For the second year running the Hampton-Dumont ProStart culinary program has sent students to the Iowa ProStart Invitational, being held this year at the Iowa Events Center in Des Moines Feb 28th. The event is sponsored by the Iowa Restaurant Association (IRA) Education Foundation and winners will advance to a national Invitational in Washington, D.C. in May held May 2-4th sponsored by the National Restaurant Association.
 

On Saturday, March 4, the Franklin County Arts Council, in collaboration with La Luz and Arts Midwest is hosting a "We the Many" Festival Concert in Hampton on at the Faith Baptist Church on March 4th at 7:00 p.m.  

The Candle-Stick Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution named five local high school students from the class of 2023 as DAR Good Citizen Award recipients in an awards ceremony held Feb 14th at the G.AR. Memorial Hall in Hampton.

William Penn University has announced that Cesar Damas, 2018 Hampton Dumont grad, has graduated with honors and appeared on the Dean’s List during the fall 2022 semester. To be included on the Dean’s List, a student must complete at least 12 hours of credit with a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.

Sukup Manufacturing Co. announced Feb 17 that it is operating in a fourth Iowa community with the expansion of its dryer line to a facility in Clear Lake at 500 S 17th St. The announcement comes after the company completed a purchase and retrofit of the former Serta Simmons factory there, the sale of which was announced by Serta and the North Iowa Corridor Economic Development Corporation in July of 2022. 

It's a new semester and that means the Bulldog cafe is back. The theme was Valentine's Day for Friday's Bulldog Cafe semester opener at Hampton-Dumont High School on Friday Feb 10. The in person cafe will be open every other week for the semester, and offer take and bake on the weeks it is not open for sit down meals. 
 

Joe Metz, Hampton-Dumont class of 1991 grad, is the City of Hampton's newest edition to the police force. Metz was formally introduced at last night's Hampton City Council meeting but actually came on to the force as a full-time officer in November last year.

After 33 years in the concrete business, Larry Adams has hung up his tool belt, which could be yours if you attend his upcoming retirement auction and place the winning bid. Adams wound down the last of its projects in December, and Larry has put everything up for sale to the highest bidder through Whitaker Marketing Group which will hold the auction.

SAINT PETER, Minn. - The Fall Semester Dean's List at Gustavus Adolphus College has been released and the college has announced that Taylor Kothenbeutel of Rockwell Iowa has been named to the list. Kothenbeutel is a 2022 graduate of West Fork High School and was named to the school’s honor roll his senior year.

The El Arca Bar and Grill, “The Ark” owned by Israel Rodriguez opened at 4pm Monday Jan 23rd in a formal ribbon cutting ceremony attended by members of the staff and the Hampton Chamber of Commerce. The restaurant offered $3.49 margaritas, free fountain drinks and a special gift to the first 10 dining parties to celebrate the occasion.

Iowa Central Community College has announced that Emily Rooney of Sheffield has made the President’s List for the Fall of 2022. The President's list designation is reserved for students who maintain a GPA of 4.0 for at least 6 hours of course credit.

Aging is a natural process, but it can be a frightening thing all the same for the aging population, as well as for those who care for them. Often, seniors and caregivers don’t know who or where to turn for help for even the simplest things such as daily meals or transportation, and navigating the government bureaucracy to find the help they need can be daunting as well.

accepted the retirement of Erin Murphy, PA. Murphy is retiring due to health issues after nearly

The Iowa Falls Elks Lodge will be holding their Hoop Shoot at the Dale Howard Center on Saturday January 14th.  Registration starts at 12:30 with the contest beginning at 1:00. The Elks Hoop Shoot is a free throw contest for kids ages 8 to 13.  The age group is based on the contestant age on April 1, 2023. Winners in each age group have the opportunity to advance to the District Shoot in Charles City.

Recently elected Franklin County officials were sworn in at the Franklin County Courthouse on Wednesday with District Judge James Drew presiding. Taking the oath were District 1 Supervisor Gary McVicker, Recorder Toni Wilkinson, Treasurer Chad Murray and District 2 Supervisor Dick Lukensmeyer. This election marked the first since county redistricting under Iowa Code section 331.210A.
