A campaign is in progress to honor a former Hampton drama teacher.
Wayne "Hank" Hansen served as the Drama Director of Ames High School from 1970 until his retirement in 2003. Before that though, Hansen got his start in teaching in Hampton as a fresh UNI graduate, teaching at the school from 1965 through 1970.

The last Tuesdays on the Town for 2022 drew a considerable crowd on the warm afternoon. People gathered in the park for live music, a meal, and admiration for the beautiful downtown of Hampton. The meal was provided by the First Bank of Hampton in support of the Franklin County Food Bank.

Centro, Inc. has announced that they have purchased a 30,000 sq. foot building at Hampton's Industrial Park.
Based out of North Liberty, Centro, Inc. specializes in rotational molding, designing and manufacturing custom products for the agriculture, construction, and lawn and garden industries.

The Hampton-Dumont Community School Board said farewell to Superintendent Todd Lettow as he attended his last board of education meeting for the district on Monday, June 27.
"Thank you. We appreciate everything you've done," said board president Erran Miller. "We wish you the best."

Jerri Grefe was appointed to fill the vacant Ward IV seat of the Hampton City Council during their regular meeting on Thursday, June 23.
The Ward IV seat has been vacant since Steve Birdsall was appointed Mayor. His replacement will finish the council term through 2023.
Grefe and Steve Proodian both applied for the vacant position and were interviewed by the council during the workshop session on the previous Monday.

This week's musical guest was KC Johns, a vocalist out of Tennessee who decided to stop by Hampton while on a tour for her sixth album.

The Hampton City Council interviewed two candidates vying to fill the vacant Ward IV council seat during their workshop meeting on Monday, June 20.
The Ward IV seat has been empty since Steve Birdsall was appointed Mayor earlier this year. The council decided to appoint somebody to finish out the rest of Birdsall's term, seeking out applicants over the last several weeks.

About 15 years ago, Harlyn Janssen of Hampton was watching television when he saw, for the first time, a competitive barbeque event. Since then, Janssen has participated in nearly 100 competitions himself and has brought home the title of “Grand Champion” eight times.

Jeff and Tracy Spear celebrated Father's Day by hosting a classic car show at Faith Baptist Church on Sunday, June 19.
The fourth annual Father's Day Car Show saw 68 classic vehicles lined up on display in the church parking lot as vehicles from Dumont to Mason City and all the way from Des Moines came up to show off their engines and paint jobs.

Community Grocery is in question as its owners have begun to reach out for new investors.
Anne and Landon Plagge, Travis Pralle, and Darwin Pralle have owned the small town grocery store for eight years now and have worked to keep it going, but, in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, it has become increasingly difficult for the store to make ends meet.
"COVID was very hard on our store," said Landon Plagge.

The Franklin County Arts Council presented a scholarship benefit concert on Thursday, June 9 at the Windsor Theatre. The "Windsor Big Band," consisting of musicians both local and visiting, played more than a dozen classic instrumental songs at the concert, raising funds through freewill donations. "We use that fund to give scholarships to seniors in Franklin County high schools," said Leon Kuehner.
