We had a Black Lives Matter rally here in town this weekend.
It was a nice event, largely comprised of the same activities as any other community event you'd find in a small Iowan town. A parade down Main Street and people hanging out in the park.

I was kinda disappointed when I went away to college that I missed out on the Peo-ples' Park riots. College was a small art school in Oakland adjoining Berkeley. Peoples' Park was a vacant lot full of trash owned by the university and acquired through eminent domain (they stole it). Locals cleaned it up, removing derelict cars and demolition debris, planting flowers, trees and shrubs, and installing play-ground equipment.

I had an unremarkable weekend.
I know I'm not the only one, but it kind of feels like it.
While I stayed home, safe and sound in my little town, miles and miles away from any large population center, the major cities of this country once again burned with riots.

Are you under your desk? As a child of the Cold War years I distinctly remember huddling under my desk at school when the siren went off. I wondered at the time if the kids in Hiro-shima were under theirs when we supposedly couldn't end World War II without the atomic bombs.

J.C. Penney is declaring bankruptcy. That's where my mom would buy my perfect t-shirts. Later they sold Big Mac jeans which were great for working in the woods. They've had some ups and downs, cheapen-ing up their t-shirts and jeans, losing their way and finding it again. Ever done that? Locking their customers out did them in.

Greetings! It has been a couple weeks since I've written, alt-hough it seems I often am re-peating what you already have seen elsewhere. But things are changing a little and we are on the path of opening our com-munities once again in a re-sponsible way. I am pleased more people will be able to see their doctors for screenings and care that were considered nonessential.

Like so many other canceled events of 2020, the Evolution Championship Series, otherwise known as Evo, has been forced to make new arrangements in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Rather than thousands of people flocking to Las Vegas to compete in today's top fighting games, the tournament will instead be held entirely online, allowing players to participate from the comfort and safety of their own home.

I've recently become email buddies with an associate of my dad's from the sixties. He contacted me through our daughter-in-law's Facebook account. Like my interest in economics has driven me to be a latter-day student, his interest is history. He teaches classes and related two stories that got me to thinking about our future, relative to our knowledge of history.

By now, life under the COVID-19 pandemic has become routine to some.
Every day life has become abiding by social distancing guidelines, not having access to your favorite stores, disinfecting and hand washing at every turn and not seeing your friends and loved ones regularly.

I lost a friend last week. Not a good friend, mind you. A former classmate. I don't think we've actually spoken in seven years and we were never particularly close to begin with. Still, going to school with somebody is a special relationship. It's part of a shared upbringing that's not meaningless.

There's another disease going around. It's called “Trump de-rangement syndrome.” It is probably more deadly than the corona virus. It causes people to lose their minds when critical thinking is required and turns the world into a popularity contest.

I got my federal stimulus payment last week.
It took an extra week or so since I had to submit my banking info to the IRS, but outside of that it was fairly simple. I woke up on Thursday with $1,200 more than I had the day before.
So, is there a reason that can't happen more often?

The disaster of the corona-virus is decades in the making. It didn't start with the Chinese government covering up a cold. It didn't start with social dis-tancing or shelter in place or-ders.
