A nuisance building in down-town Hampton will soon be demolished.
The Hampton City Coun-cil at its Thursday, Oct. 24 regular meeting approved a contract with Peterson Back-hoe, of Dumont, for $68,840 for the demolition of the building located at 115 and 117 First Ave., commonly known as the “Cross Building.”

The headline in the upfront section of the Wednesday, Oct. 30 Hampton Chronicle incorrectly stated the date for the St. Paul Lutheran Church’s annual ham dinner. The annual ham dinner will be Sunday, Nov. 3 from 4:30 to 7 p.m.

An ordinance to change the zoning of a lot in Hampton failed last Thursday.
At its regular meeting last week, the Hampton City Council voted down a measure to change a portion of the lot by First Christian Church, 605 Fourth St. NE, from R1 (residential) to Arterial Transitional (AT), which allows residential and commercial considerations. The lot had been tabbed by a funeral home developer for a new location.
