DES MOINES -- West Fork made a furious rally to come within three, but fell short in the Class 1A state consolation final, 78-72, against Montezuma on Thursday, March 12 at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.

Kayden Ames had a big offensive burst in the second half to score 22 points after just six in the first half against the Braves (25-3).

He was one of seven players returning for the Warhawks (24-4) in 2020-21 and said that he'll start working toward next season 'tomorrow.'

Alyssa Hames may never watch a movie the same way again.

She answered a casting call on Facebook looking for young basketball players to audition for an upcoming film, thinking that it’d maybe just be a day of filming.

Five days of filming later, the AGWSR junior left with a new perspective on the filmmaking process.

“I thought it’d just be one thing, do a quick run, maybe do it again,” Hames said. “But they have to get it from every angle, every scene from every angle.”

NEVADA — Holding off Ankeny Christian, West Fork’s boys’ basketball team earned its first state berth since 2014.

Coach Frank Schnoes’ Warhawks built a 20-point lead early in the second half, only to see it dwindle to three with 5 minutes, 2 seconds left.

But West Fork got a pair of big baskets inside from Brayden Vold, who lost his second-half starting assignment to Cail Weaver, as the Warhawks held on for a 61-54 Class 1A Sub-State 3 win.

Vold wasn’t about to hang his head about it, going from three points at halftime to 12.
