The Windsor Theatre was recently named “Member of the Year” by the Greater Franklin County Chamber of Commerce.

The Windsor Theatre Development Corporation has been managed by lifelong Hampton resident Jim Davies — who oversees everything from booking movies to building maintenance — since 1999.

Since signing on, Davies and his team of helpers have worked together to bring the latest (and sometimes classic) movies to the big screen for community members of all ages. His current team is made up of Cara Schwake, Nik Leland and Reed Masters, along with numerous volunteers. Not only do they offer several movie showings each week, but they also open their doors for community events throughout the year, including guest speakers, plays and panels.

According to Davies, the business has provided part-time jobs to 76 individuals, primarily students, since 1999. And well over 122,000 people have come through the doors to attend movies and live events.

Davies said that he and his team are honored to receive this recognition.

"It is truly an honor for the Windsor Theatre to be recognized by the chamber, when there are so many other worthy members," said Davies. "Today, the Windsor faces two major challenges: declining attendance and rising insurance costs in an insurance marketplace where it is very difficult to find a company willing to provide a quote. Community support is needed now more than ever."

Chamber representative Jerre Grefe told the Chronicle that the theatre has been a valuable asset to the community in a number of ways.

“In addition to a great selection of movies, the theatre brings sooo many varied entertainment venues to Hampton which offers something for everyone,” said  Grefe. “They also promote tourism in Hampton which is beneficial to all in our downtown district. The Windsor is beautiful and well maintained which is a source of pride in our community. Jim does an excellent job as manager!”

The Winsdor Theatre Development Corporation is a nonprofit governed by volunteer board of directors.

The theatre and other community organizations will be recognized at the Chamber's annual appreciation celebration, which is scheduled for Feb. 14 at the Franklin County Convention Center. Fairgrounds. The evening will begin with a social hour, followed by dinner (prepared by Zakeer's Catering and the H-D-CAL ProStart students), awards, games and dancing. Tickets can be purchased by calling Center One at 641-456-5668.
