West Fork Girls Basketball Season Preview

The West Fork girls basketball season is underway, and the Warhawks will look to have similar success to their historical season last year. Last season, the Warhawks finished with an impressive 20-4 record and a 13-1 record in Top of Iowa East Conference play before being eliminated by Central Lyon in the regional finals. The Warhawks will be losing a lot of production and experience from last year's team, including nine seniors and all five of their regular starters. Head coach of the Warhawks, Rodney Huber explained how difficult it will be to replace that much production, talent and leadership.

"We kind of have to start over in a way," Huber said. "We have a couple of players who are back from last year who played varsity minutes that will have to step into much bigger roles. We also have had a couple of girls that didn't go out this year that would've been varsity contributors, so we have some young girls that are going to be thrust into some action pretty quickly."

Some of the key players with varsity experience who are returning this season are senior Brylee Dickman, junior Evelyn Hitzhusen and sophomore Zada Huff. Coach Huber spoke on how important those girls will be this season.

"Evelyn and Brylee have been in the rotation for me for two years, so they're well-versed in kind of how we do things," he said. "Zada was in the rotation last year, so she will also know how to handle certain situations and will certainly take on a bigger role this year."

The Warhawks played in a scrimmage at South Hardin on Monday, Nov. 24, before hosting North Iowa for the first game of the regular season on Tuesday, Nov. 25. The Warhawks next game Monday, Dec. 1 at Forrest City at 6:15 p.m.
