Warhawks Boys Basketball Drops Game to Knights

SHEFFIELD - West Fork boys basketball has fallen to 0-2 to start the season after falling 65-55 to the Newman Catholic Knights on Friday, Dec. 12. The Warhawks started hot, as they outscored the Knights 15-12 in the first quarter. However, that would be the only quarter the Warhawks would win, as the Knights outscored them 14-10 in the second quarter, 19-15 in the third quarter and 2015 in the second quarter. The Warhawks were battled as they brought the game to within one point in the fourth quarter before the Knights pulled away. Head coach of the Warhawks, Abraham Maske, was pleased with how his team played despite the loss.

"We played much better than we did the first game defensively," Maske said. "We did some really good things, but when we made a few defensive mistakes, Newman's top two players, Wesley Cole and Thomas McGuire, really made us pay. We had a good game plan going in, and as the game went on in the fourth quarter, we kind of struggled to defend McQuire, who really became hot, and it was just tough to overcome his hot shooting."

Junior Zander Hansen led the Warhawks in scoring with 14 points. junior Ayden Bonner scored 11 points and junior Keston Lambertson added 10 points of his own. The Warhawks fall to 0-2 on the season and 0-1 in conference play. Coach Maska discussed how the Warhawks can improve after the first two games of the season.

"We are a very good and solid team," he said. "We need to start shooting the ball with confidence, play defense all four quarters from start to finish and continue to get better."

The Warhawks hosted Central Springs on Tuesday, Dec. 16 and their next game is on Friday, Dec. 19 when they host Saint Ansgar at 7:30 p.m.
