Lots of Bulldogs to Represent at State Track

Two of the four runners from the 4x100m and 4x200m relay teams that qualified for state, Gavin Meader and Tony Valenzuela.
The Bulldog boys and girls track teams would run at the North Central Conference track meet this past Thursday. The boys would travel to Webster City, while the girls would head to Fort Dodge. Boys team would be looking to continue the strong performance and finish the season strong before heading into the district track meet.
The Hampton-Dumont-CAL girls track team would compete against the other NCC teams in Fort Dodge at Dodger Stadium. Sophomore Charlee Morton would continue her dominance in field events for the Bulldogs with a conference title in the shot put with a throw of 41 feet and 8 inches. Morton would finish as the runner-up in the discus with a 109 foot 8 inch throw. Fellow sophomore Lily Hambly would finish 6th in the high jump. In the running events the Bulldogs would have some place winners as well. Sophomore Abby Drier would finish 7th in the 100M dash and 3rd in the 100M hurdles. Junior Teaghan Bird would finish in 6th in the 400M hurdles. Fellow junior Lydia Maas would finish in 7th in the 1500M run and 6th in the 3000M run. The 4x100m relay team of Gronewold, Eilderts, Showalter, and Bird would finish in 4th place. The 4x200m relay of Hambly, Dietz, Castro, and Dunnwald would finish in 7th place. The 4x400m relay team would also finish 7th, consisting of Gronewold, Castro, Dietz, and Dunnwald. The sprint medley relay would finish in 4th place with Drier and Eilderts running the 100m legs, Showalter running the 200m leg, and Gronewold running the 400m. The distance medley, with Showalter and Eilderts running the 200m, Gronewold running the 400m, and Maas running the 800m, would finish 7th. The shuttle hurdle relay would finish 3rd overall, the hurdle team of Drier, Hambly, Bird, and Showalter. The girls would score 59 points and finish 7th in the conference.
The boys track team would head down to Webster City for their conference track meet. In the field events, the Bulldogs would score points in each event. Junior Tucker Schmitt would tie for 5th place in the high jump clearing the 5 foot 4 inch mark. Fellow junior Gage Plagge would qualify for the finals in the long jump and finish as the conference runner-up. Junior Scott Harr would finish as the conference runner-up in the shot put and 5th place in the discus. The Bulldogs would finish 1-2 in 100m dash with senior Jack Drier claiming the conference title with a time of 11.01 seconds. Junior Gavin Meader would finish second with a time of 11.11. Junior Aiden Polk would finish 6th in the 110m high hurdles. Sophomore Colin Bird would finish 8th in the 400m hurdles. The Bulldogs would earn a couple more conference titles by winning the 4x100m and 4x200m relays with runners Drier, Murray, Meader, and Valenzuela. The 4x400m relay would finish in 8th place. The 4x800m relay would finish in 7th place. The sprint medley team would claim the another conference title for the Bulldogs and break the conference record with a time of 1:34.84. Murray and Meader would run the 100m, Valenzuela would run the 200, and Plagge would run the 400m. The distance medley would finish in 5th place, while the shuttle hurdle would finish in fourth place. The Bulldogs would score 87.5 point and finish fourth in the NCC.
The next time the Bulldogs take the track it will be to qualify for the state track meet. The boys and girls will travel down to Nevada for the district qualifying meet. The meet is scheduled to begin at 4:00 PM and tickets must be purchased online through the state.
