The Hampton-Dumont-Girls basketball team will be led by first year head coach Jackie Finley for the 2026 season. The girls' team had a record of 0-14-1 last season and have not won a game since the 2023 season. Coach Finley discussed how the girls can get over the hump and collect that first win this season and be overall more competitive in games.

"One thing I think that we will need to improve on is working more together," Finley said.

"From my perspective, for the last couple of seasons, there was a lot of pushing the ball to whoever is in the forward position and kind of letting them do their thing and not supporting them as we should have as a team."

While the Bulldogs are losing some seniors from last year's team, including team captains Mallory Riekn and Maria Ramirez, they will also be returning some key players from last season. The Bulldogs' leading goal scorer from last season, senior Alyeen Rodriguez, will be returning along with starting goal keeper, junior Madison Heilskov, and sophomore Brisa Rojas, who were all three intriguing parts of last year's team. Coach Finley discussed how Rojas and Heilskov will be stepping into bigger leadership roles on the team.

"Madison and Brisa are excited about stepping into those leadership roles," she said. "They want to see the program grow, and they're excited about the prospect of having more involvement with the participation."

With the Bulldogs looking for their first wins in three seasons, coach Finley explained what needs to happen to make the program more successful year in and year out.

"We need to boost numbers," she said. "The past couple of seasons, we haven't had a ton of girls join the team. So that is a big priority of mine; to build numbers and to have the girls enjoy playing and encourage the younger girls to play."

With the Bulldogs under new leadership, the will look to use the 2026 season as a building block for the future of the program.
