Franklin Wellness Center receives CARES Act grant

The Franklin Wellness Center has been approved for an Iowa Fitness Center Relief Grant on behalf of Franklin County R.A.C.E.

Administered by the Iowa Economic Authority, $30 million in funds in federal CARES Act money is being distributed to eligible fitness centers across the state.

The Franklin County Wellness Center has been approved for a $31,108.73 grant, which the wellness center will be using to supplement their operating expenses along with making some repairs to the pool.

"There's plenty to use the money on," said manager Jim Davies. "One immediate expense we're going to be using it on will be ordering a new propeller for the lap pool circulation pump."

The wellness center will be applying for additional grants and possibly looking at other fundraising options in the future to replace the pool's dehumidification system, which will be another major expenditure.
