County Employee Joins Race for At-Large Council Seat

The candidates for Hampton’s 2025 city election were all running uncontested until Friday, Oct. 17, when Lisa Hill of Hampton announced her candidacy for the at-large city council seat.
She is running as a write-in candidate, against Jeanne Fay, who will appear on the ballot on Nov. 4. Hill will not appear on the ballot.
“I am not running to represent a political party—I am running to represent you and our town,” said Hill. “I respect what our council has done in the past and respect the council member in my ward so I did not feel running against him was in the best interest of Hampton, however the at-large council member has chosen to not run and I feel I could make a great impact on our local government if I were voted in to fill the position.”
Hill has worked for Franklin County for the past nine years, starting with her role as the County Assistant Zoning Administrator, before becoming the County Zoning Administrator. She is currently working with District 2, 3 and 6 Disability Access Points, which provides resources for those with disabilities, along with their families and caregivers. She is employed by Franklin County through this role.
Hill added that for the last nine years, she has overseen the budgets for multiple departments within the county.
“I have tracked state legislation, been part of meetings with decision makers at the state level and have a great understanding of how budgets are created as well as what can be done with our local dollars,” she said. “Government has become a passion of mine over the years. I have worked extremely hard to lower the expenses in my departments, while keeping in mind the people of our community in which I help serve.”
After graduating from Hampton-Dumont School District, Hill graduated from Ellsworth Community College and then the University of Northern Iowa, where she obtained a bachelor’s degree.
“I came back to Hampton and have raised my family and have worked in Hampton for the past 20 years,” she said. “I have raised my three children in Hampton and my adult children have chosen to come back to this community for what our community has to offer and the values our smaller community shares. My youngest child attends school in Hampton and enjoys many opportunities by living in Hampton.”
