Coaches VS. Cancer a Slam Dunk

The Franklin County Relay for Life crew held another successful Coaches VS Cancer event, on Saturday, Jan. 24, raising thousands of dollars for their cause.
The Hampton-Dumont-CAL and West Fork varsity teams took to the court starting at 3 p.m., with the girls first, followed by the boys teams.
In between the games, cheerleaders ran around collecting cash during the bucket run and a silent auction was held until the end of the second halftime. T-shirts were also sold leading up to the games and local businesses chipped in for sponsorships.
All in all, the Franklin County Relay for Life was able to raise a total of $11,535.30 — $4,249 through sponsorships, $2,770 through the silent auction, $2,087.11 through the bucket run, $2,110 through the West Fork girls basketball team and $319.19 through t-shirt sales.
All of this funding will go towards supporting local cancer survivors and patients, as well as national research, said event organizer Sheri Bogue, who added that more money is still coming in from various West Fork groups.
Event organizers Bogue and Michelle Hartman also invite everyone to attend their soup supper, which they rescheduled for Feb. 6 at 5:30 p.m. at West Fork High School. They will be serving chili, chicken noodle soup and cookie bars for a free-will donation.
All proceeds from that event will go towards their Coaches VS Cancer fundraising, as well.
Hampton boys basketball coach Matt Lokenvitz called the annual Coach VS Cancer games "a great event."
"Most people have been affected by cancer in one way or another, so it is great that we can do things like this that bring awareness," he told the Chronicle. "Having the silent auction and bucket run also helps raise money for research as we continue to try and find a cure. Win or lose, this is a great event that I hope we are a part of for many years in the future."
