Ceremony Held for National Historic Landmark Designation of Reeve Generating Plant

A special ceremony was held Wednesday morning, July 9 to celebrate the designation of Reeve REA Power Generating Plant as a National Historic Landmark.
Franklin County Historical Society President Jim Davies acted as the emcee, and a special appearance was made by Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig.
"This plant represents more than just a piece of history. It's a symbol of the determination, hard work, and cooperative spirit that brought light and power to rural Iowa, starting right here in Franklin County," said Davies. "What began as a dream became reality through the efforts of local leaders, farmers and community members who refused to give up. Their work changed lives and today we celebrate that legacy."
Franklin County Historical Society Board member Rick Whalen, who applied for the status, said it took four years to get approved. Naig thanked him and everyone else who made this possible.
"This was no small task. This changed lives for the better," said Naig. "This is a well-deserved recognition."
The Reeve plant was designated as a landmark last December. Iowa has 28 other landmarks.
