Caden Woods and Jaslene Tevalan Named Homecoming King and Queen

Caden Woods and Jaslene Tevalan were named this year's homecoming king and queen for H-D-CAL during the school district's pep rally on Friday, Sept. 22.

Woods has been involved with football, basketball and track over the years. He plans on attending Iowa State, where he wants to major in marketing and minor in business management. His parents are Nicole and Jon Hager.

Tevalan has stayed busy with football cheer, wrestling cheer, large group speech, individual speech, student council and TRIO over the years. Her future plans are to go to college and major in radiologic technology, and then earn a degree in diagnostic medical sonography. Her parents are Jessica and Aurelio Aburto.

“Jaslene and Caden represent an incredible group of young people on the Homecoming court,” said H-D-CAL Student Council Advisor Leslie Pralle Osborn. “I am thrilled for two such deserving people to represent the Bulldogs!”

The other candidates for queen were Natalie Birdsell, Emma Dietz and Alycia Martinez. The other candidates for king were Brady Harr, Brody Strother and Ryder Strother.

The high school's student council members organized a week of homecoming festivities leading up to the big games Friday night.

On Friday, Sept. 12, they held a homecoming court assembly, where everyone could meet the candidates. On Monday, Sept. 15, there was hallway decorating in the afternoon followed by a movie night at the Winsdor Theatre for the student. On Tuesday, Sept. 16, there was a powder puff game and after shave event. On Thursday, Sept. 18, the community came together for a tailgate at the high school, where children of all ages had their faces painted, jumped in bounce houses, enjoyed dinner, played indoor games and more. On Friday, Sept. 19, the annual homecoming parade was held, starting at the court house and ending at the high school, where the king and queen were crowned during the community pep rally in the new gymnasium of the high school. And on Saturday evening, Sept. 20, students danced the night away at the homecoming dance.

Proceeds from the tailgate will go towards student activities throughout the year, said Student Council Advisor Leslie Pralle Osborn.

“Homecoming this year was a battle against the weather, but the students once again put together an amazing week of activities showcasing our community pride and Bulldog spirit,” said  Osborn. “I continue to be proud to work alongside such motivated and dedicated student-leaders. We look forward to building off of what we’ve built and coming back even bigger and better next year!”
