A drastic change in the weather made it difficult for the Bulldog track athletes to compete this last week, but the boys and girls each got one chance to compete. The boys were supposed to host a home meet on Monday, but it was canceled due to cold temperatures. The boys found a makeup meet in Brooklyn at BGM on Tuesday. The girls also ran on Tuesday but had their meet at Belmond-Klemme Friday canceled due to weather conditions.

Tuesday the Bulldog girls’ track team headed to Garner for the Cardinal Relays, where the girls would crown four individual champions. Charlee Morton continued her dominance by winning both the shot put and discus again. Morton has set herself up to make a big splash at the Drake Relays this coming weekend where she qualified for both events. Lily Hambly also claimed a high jump title and Abby Drier won in the 100-meter hurdles. Teaghan Bird and Zoe Erdman finished as runner-ups in the 400-meter hurdles and 400-meter dash. Drier also finished seventh in the 100-meter dash and eighth in the long jump. Bird turned in a seventh-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles and Lydia Maas took fifth in the 3,000-meter run. Kasey Springer finished eighth in the discus. The 4 x 100-meter relay team of Drier, Bird, Erdman and Gronewold finish third. The sprint medley team of Eilderts, Gronewold, Dunnwald, and Hambly finished in seventh, while the distance medley team made up of Eilderts, Gronewold, Hambly, and Maas finished fifth

The H-D-CAL boys made the two-hour trek down to BGM to get a track meet in. The boys would come away with a win from the meet, scoring 103 points. The boys started strong in the field events with Gage Plagge winning the long jump. Scott Harr finished second in the shot put and fourth in the discus and Brady Harr finished eighth in the discus. The Bulldogs finished first and third in the 100-meter dash with Gavin Meader winning and Jack Drier finishing third. Karter Janssen finished third in the 200-meter dash, and Carson Hisler finished fourth. Ethan Miller also took fourth in the 400-meter dash, while Tucker Schmitt would finish seventh. Plagge finished as the runner-up in the 800-meter, while Jayson Stevens finished seventh. Isaac Vosburg finished eighth in the mile and Aiden Polk finished eighth in the 110 high hurdles. Carter Arends turned in a sixth place finish in the 400-meter hurdles. The 4 x 100-meter and 4 x 200-meter relay teams of Drier, Murray, Meader, and Valenzuela swept, claiming both titles. The 4 x 800-meter relay team of Stevens, Vosburg, Miller, and Sauke would take seventh. The sprint medley finished as runners-up, with the relay consisting of Walton, Valenzuela, Hisler, and Plagge. The distance medley took fifth with runners Walton, Strother, Strother and Tchamba. The shuttle hurdle finished first behind the legs of Janssen, Murray, Bird, and Polk.

The Bulldog girls headed to Humboldt Monday for the Wildcat Relays. Both the boys and girls will be at home Friday for the Jim Basye Co-ed Relays. Thursday and Friday will also see Morton head down to Des Moines for the Drake Relays. She will throw the discus in the high school division at 2:30 p.m. Thursday and will return on Friday to throw the shot put at 9 a.m. The boys 4 x 100-meter relay team, consisting of Jack Drier, Tate Murray, Gavin Meader, and Tony Valenzuela, will take the track at 9:58 a.m. Friday.
