Bulldogs Girls Lose to Webster City

The Hampton-Dumont-CAL girls soccer team lost their match vs the Webster City Lynx by a score of 5-0 on Monday, May 5. It was the Bulldogs second matchup of the season with the Lynx, having dropped their first matchup versus them 6-0. It was another strong first half for the Bulldogs, as they held the Lynx scoreless in the half, behind some good saves from Madison Heilskov. However, it would be a different story in the second half as the Lynx would score two quick goals in the first five minutes of the second half, adding three more later in the half to end the game 5-0. Head coach of the Bulldogs girls soccer team, Ben Schaltcher, said his team battled in the first half and just ran out of energy in the second half. 

“We kind of just ran out of gas in the second half,” said Schaltcher. “They scored a couple of kind of cheap goals there in the beginning of the second half and we kind of just had the wind come out of our sails.”

The loss dropped the Bulldogs record to 0-10-1. Though they had lost, it was a more competitive game this time around than when they first faced the Lynx on the first game of the season and coach Schlatcher said the girls have improved tremendously since the first matchup. 

“They are head and shoulder better than we were to start the year, “ he said. “They have come a long way. They are doing some really good things on offense that we hadn’t done previously.” 

The Bulldogs had to forfeit their game on Thursday vs Humboldt, and their next game will be their last game of the regular season when they host Garner-Hayfield-Ventura on Monday, May 12 at 5:30 p.m.
