Bulldogs Boys Wrestling Places Fourth in Keith Vry Invitational

PARKERSBURG - The Hampton-Dumont-CAL boys wrestling team had a solid performance in the Keith Vry Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 13, as they placed fourth overall out of nine team with a score of 154.5. Head coach of the Bulldogs, Colin Muller, was very proud of how his team performed in the tournament.

"I am very proud of all of the boys," Muller said. "We are trending in the right direction as individuals and as a team. The boys are improving every time the step on the mat and that comes from their ability to be coachable, along with working hard in the practice room."

The Bulldogs had four wrestlers place inside the top three, including senior Brody Strother, who placed second in the 138 pound class and scored 20 points for the team, and sophomore Luke Showalter, who placed second in the 144 pound class and scored 19 points for the team. Junior Beau Morton placed third in the 190 pound class and scored 21 points for the team, and senior Maddon Evans placed third in the 215 pound class and scored 21 points for the team. Coach Muller expressed how proud he was of those four wrestlers for placing in the top three in their respective weight classes.

"Luke and Brody both competed very well to make the finals and then ran into some hammers," he said. "Beau and Maddon both are consistently hard workers and it is great to see that work pay off."

The other Bulldogs wrestlers that scored points for the team: senior Jacobb Mahler placed fourth in the 150 pound class and scored 15.5 points for the team, junior Cooper Bird placed fourth in the 175 pound class and scored 16 points for the team, senior Emmett Elling placed fourth in the 285 pound class and scored 20 points for the team, senior Ryder Strother placed fifth in the 165 pound class and scored 13 points for the team and freshman Kinnik Perez placed sixth in the 126 pound class ad scored 8 points for the team.

The Bulldogs next competition is the NCC triangular versus St. Edmond and Humboldt at St. Edmond high school on Thursday, Dec. 18 at 6 p.m.
