Athlete of the Week: Talia Pommrehn

West Fork freshman Talia Pommrehn wasted little time making school history.

Pommrehn broke the school record in the 100-meter dash at the season-opening meet March 30 in St. Ansgar, finishing in 13.26 seconds. The previous mark of 13.33 was set by Hailey Clausen in 2018.

The record-setting performance came in West Fork’s first outdoor meet of the 2025-26 season.

After recovering from foot surgery, Pommrehn said her offseason focus was simply staying active.

“I had a lot of softball that kind of helped me through it, and I just had foot surgery, so I also had to have that to go through,” said Pommrehn. “But nothing really special, just making sure that I was continuing to do a sport to make sure that I stayed in shape.”

Pommrehn said she believes there is still room for improvement as the season progresses and has set goals beyond the 100-meter dash.

“Definitely just get better and hopefully make it to state in more than one event,” said Pommrehn. “Even if it’s just the 100, that’ll be fine, but definitely try and make it in more events.”

Pommrehn also turned in a strong all-around performance at the meet, winning the 400-meter dash with a personal-best time of 1:02.47. West Fork’s 4x100-meter relay team of Pommrehn, Jojo Schmidt, Dazie Huff and Alyssa Wood added a second-place finish.
