El Arca Bar and Grill Cuts the Ribbon Jan 23

The El Arca Bar and Grill, “The Ark” owned by Israel Rodriguez opened at 4pm Monday Jan 23rd in a formal ribbon cutting ceremony attended by members of the staff and the Hampton Chamber of Commerce. The restaurant offered $3.49 margaritas, free fountain drinks and a special gift to the first 10 dining parties to celebrate the occasion.

Emily Rooney of Sheffield Extends Streak of Academic Excellence

Iowa Central Community College has announced that Emily Rooney of Sheffield has made the President’s List for the Fall of 2022. The President's list designation is reserved for students who maintain a GPA of 4.0 for at least 6 hours of course credit.

Emily, a 2021 West Fork honors Graduate and the daughter of Jeff and Karla Rooney of Sheffield is no stranger to the President’s list though, having first appeared on NIACC’s President’s list, where she studied pre-dental hygiene, in the fall of 2020 while still a high school student

Erin Murphy, PA retiring from Franklin Medical Center after nearly 29 years of Service

accepted the retirement of Erin Murphy, PA. Murphy is retiring due to health issues after nearly

29 years of service to Franklin Medical Center and the Franklin County community.

Murphy began her career with Franklin Medical Center in May of 1994. She has cared for

ELKS HOOP SHOOT

The Iowa Falls Elks Lodge will be holding their Hoop Shoot at the Dale Howard Center on Saturday January 14th. Registration starts at 12:30 with the contest beginning at 1:00. The Elks Hoop Shoot is a free throw contest for kids ages 8 to 13. The age group is based on the contestant age on April 1, 2023. Winners in each age group have the opportunity to advance to the District Shoot in Charles City.

The program is free to all contestants and provides youth an opportunity to compete, connect and succeed through hard work and healthy competition.

County Officials Sworn in Dec 28

Recently elected Franklin County officials were sworn in at the Franklin County Courthouse on Wednesday with District Judge James Drew presiding. Taking the oath were District 1 Supervisor Gary McVicker, Recorder Toni Wilkinson, Treasurer Chad Murray and District 2 Supervisor Dick Lukensmeyer. This election marked the first since county redistricting under Iowa Code section 331.210A.

Brittany Hanson Brings Styling Skills Home to Hampton

Brittany Hanson, stylist, is coming home to Hampton, where she lives. Starting the first week of the New Year Brittany will be doing hair here in Hampton, Iowa at Styles on Third. Brittany will be working out of the salon at 222 3rd Ave NE, owned by Nadine Goodwin, and will be operating independently under the name “Brittany Hanson at Styles on 3rd.”

Festive Trees of Hampton

Hampton was once again graced with many holiday trees on display for residents and visitors to enjoy around town. Businesses and offices in Hampton showed off their festive displays in the week before Christmas with trees from one to twelve feet lit up around town. A dumping of snow on Friday closed schools and provided the perfect coating for the trees that line the downtown streets each year. Many report that their trees will stay up until New Years so there’s still time to go out and make a tour of the holiday trees of Hampton!

The Iowa Cattlemen's Association Iowa Cattle Industry Leadership Summit was held December 15, 16 at Prairie Meadows Casino in Des Moines.

Pictured attending the summit from Franklin County are 5th generation farmer and Franklin County Cattlemen's Association President, Andrew Benning, District 4 Representative Mark DeVries 4th generation farmer, and wife Carma of Sheffield. Mark remarked that he enjoys attending Cattlemen's events because "you always take something away you can use." After this event Andrew and Mark will be preparing for the Iowa Cattlemen's Banquet on January 28th.

A Tree Grows in the Courthouse

In what is sure to become an annual tradition, a 10 ft tall holiday tree has sprouted up in the Franklin County courthouse rotunda this year. No worries about the intricately patterned marble floor however, as the tree was “planted” by the staff at the Auditor's office and only has short historical roots.
