HAMPTON— The  Hampton-Dumont-CAL Bulldogs girls soccer team dropped their home opener of the season 10-0 to the Iowa Falls-Alden Cadets on Thursday. The girls were missing five players and were facing one of their toughest opponents of the season. Head coach Ben Schlater said that the first two games of the season would be a good measuring stick for the team as they opened the season facing two of their toughest opponents. He talked about what his team can improve on for the rest of the season.

“Just fighting for the ball, really just little things,” Schlater said. “That’s the biggest thing, just learning how to play together and not just retreating when there is a chance to win a ball. It’s not like we have major holes to clean up.”

Schlater was impressed with goalkeeper Madison Heilskov’s performance.

“Despite what the scoreboard says she had a heck of a game,” Schlater said. “Before last year she never even stepped in goal and she was making some great plays out there.”

The Bulldogs will look to secure that first win of the season on Monday April 7th at 5:30 p.m. when they host Belmone-Klemme at the Hampton-Dumont High School soccer field.
