Janiece Elaine Davis, 88

Janiece Elaine Davis, 88, passed away at Shell Point Retirement Community in Ft. Myers, Florida, on January 12, 2022.

Janiece was born on August 10, 1933, in Hampton, Iowa, to Paul and Gladys (Paullus) Borcherding. She graduated as class valedictorian in 1951 from Franklin Consolidated High School in Latimer, Iowa. While cheerleading at a high school basketball game, she met her future husband, Ivan Davis, a player for the opposing team.

Janiece earned a teaching degree from Drake University in 1953 and taught third grade in Urbandale, Iowa. She and Ivan were married in August that same year.

Besides making a home for her husband and two children, Janiece enjoyed traveling and attending movies and the theatre. She instilled her love of all the fine arts in her children, for which they are grateful. A patron of the MacNider Museum, she was an accomplished potter. Her children and grandchildren enjoy her pottery in their homes to this day. Janiece also worked in the family-owned bank as a senior club coordinator as well as serving as a board member.

Upon retirement, Ivan and Janiece moved to Sanibel Island, Florida, where they enjoyed many years of relaxation in the warm weather. Each fall they traveled to New York City to see Broadway theatre.

Janiece is survived by her beloved husband, Ivan, a brother, Randall (Beverly) Borcherding of San Francisco, a son, Brad (Peggy) Davis of Coralville, Iowa, and a daughter, Lori (Joseph) Cole of Chicago; her grandchildren, Andrew (Nicole) Davis, Matthew (Betsy) Davis, Kate (Scott) Atwood, Michael Davis, Ian Cole, and Anna Cole; and her great-grandchildren, Jackson Davis, Elliot and Claire Atwood, Guy and Sloane Davis, and Luka Brokaw. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters.

A memorial service was held at the Shell Point Village Church in Ft. Myers. Internment will be at the Hampton Cemetery in Hampton.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a contribution in memory of Janiece be made to benefit Alzheimer’s research. These may be sent to Lori at 3896 Ponchartrain Dr., Michiana, Michigan, 49117, or Brad at 90 Auburn East Lane, Coralville, Iowa, 52241.

Condolences may be sent to Ivan at 8103 Arbor Ct, Ft. Myers, Florida, 33908. Messages of condolence may also be left online at www.harvey-engelhardt.com.
