Jay Luebbers, 64

Jay Lee Luebbers Greene:  Funeral Services for Jay Luebbers, 64, of Minneapolis, Minnesota will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 24, 2021 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Greene with Father Ralph Davis officiating.  Burial will be in the Dumont Cemetery at a later date.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Thursday, September 23, 2021 at Retz Funeral Home, 519 N. First St. Greene, Iowa and will continue one hour prior to services at the church. There will be a rosary service at the funeral home at 7 p.m.

Jay was born on May 15, 1957 a son of Berton ‘Paul’ and Mavis (Tjabring) Luebbers and passed away on Thursday, September 16, 2021 at the Loren on Park Assisted Living in Minneapolis.

He received his education in public schools in Dumont graduating from Dumont High School in 1975. Jay earned his Bachelor’s degree in Music from the University of Northern Iowa four years later.  Jay loved music and immediately secured a position    teaching in the Ackley schools, Oelwein and later in Minneapolis.

In the early 90’s Jay bought a duplex in Minneapolis and set up residency. Between his teaching positions he began to entertain at local dinner theaters. Jay also performed in various musicals in the city.

Jay was a member of the Basilica of St. Mary in Minneapolis, Minnesota where he utilized his talents in music as a member of their choir.

He liked to sing and dance and to spend quality time with family and friends.  He loved the social life style the city provided for him. He was well known in his community and was a kind, good hearted, “good guy” just a truly nice person. Jay loved flowers and worked hard to landscape his yard. He had always a bit of a handy-man, seemed to be able to do anything. Jay had a good sense of humor and loved to develop elaborate pranks to play on his family, especially on the holidays.  He was sentimental and interested in family history. He proudly displayed pictures of ancestors in his home. He was colorful and creative.

Jay will be sadly missed by his parents, Paul and Mavis Luebbers, Greene; Dan (Dana) Luebbers, Iowa City; Shelly (Frank) Brown, Nashua; six nieces and nephews: Tiffany (Taylor) Hogan, Brice Luebbers, Kaylee (Jeremy) Bilharz, Boe (Alexis) Brown, Luke (Harley) Brown, Jessie (Kasey) Brown, many good friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
