Fred Henry Muhlenbruch, 90

Fred Henry Muhlenbruch, 90, of Latimer, Iowa, passed away Monday, August 2, 2021, at Franklin General Hospital.  He was born on May 4, 1931, in Hampton, to George and Alvina (Pralle) Muhlenbruch.  

Fred married Sharon Mueller on August 8, 1965, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Muscoda, Wisconsin; to this union two children were born: Randall and Ranae.  Their marriage ended after thirty years, but their friendship persevered for the rest of his life.      

Fred proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1951 to 1955, where he was an airplane mechanic during the Korean War.

Fred was a farmer in rural Latimer, where he raised cattle and hogs and grew corn and soybeans on the family farm.  He enjoyed farming, gardening, bicycling, coffee at the café, and playing 500 and cribbage.  Fred loved Latimer and always spoke highly of his home town.  

Fred was a member of Farm Bureau, Latimer Community Club, Pork Producers and Cattleman's.  He was also a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Latimer.  

He loved spending time with his family and will be missed by his son Randall Muhlenbruch of Davenport, daughter Ranae (Derek) Long of Clear Lake, grandchildren Reese Muhlenbruch of Beaufort, South Carolina and Christopher Long of Clear Lake, great-grandchildren Luna Muhlenbruch and Elijah Muhlenbruch-Donjaun, ex-wife and friend Sharon Muhlenbruch of Clear Lake, sister-in-law Melba Muhlenbruch of Hampton, along with many nieces, nephews and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents George and Alvina, siblings Alice (Loren) Stock, Howard Muhlenbruch, Frances (Alvin) Meyer, and JoAnne (Erwin) Mills.

A memorial service for Fred was held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 7, 2021, at the Sietsema Vogel Funeral Home in Hampton.  A visitation was held one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
