The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office is looking for answers after a vehicle drove into the Franklin County Law Enforcement Center’s doors last week.
Franklin County Sheriff Aaron Dodd said the suspect drove his or her vehicle through the northeast doors of the building that lead to a hallway outside of the conference room last Wednesday evening around 10:30 p.m.
No one inside the office was injured in the collision.
Dodd said surveillance shows the SUV traveling west off of First Avenue SW, over the curb and across the lawn of the sheriff’s office before running over a handicap parking sign and through the exterior doors. He said the video shows the driver then reversed the vehicle, exited the building and traveled south out of the parking lot before continuing west on Second Avenue SW.
Dodd said a suspect had not been fully identified as of last Friday, but the department was able to collect evidence in the form of the video, as well as mirrors and part of a fender.
“We have mirrors and car parts, so we know the age range, the vehicle color and the vehicle style,” he said.
Dodd said the vehicle is likely a 2002-2005 red or maroon Ford Explorer. The vehicle will have heavy damage, including missing side mirrors, damage to the windshield and hood and a missing flare on the front passenger side fender.
“We’re just looking for people’s help,” he said. “If anyone has sold a vehicle recently or is missing a vehicle that fits that description, we’re looking for help identifying it.”
He added that apprehending the suspect is especially important, as the incident appeared to have been intentional.
“It was lined up perfectly to go through (the doors),” he said. “It does not appear to be accidental.”
Anyone with any information related to the incident is encouraged to contact the sheriff’s office at 641-456-2731.
