Franklin County Relay For Life events raise over $56,000 to fight cancer

Friday night’s Franklin County Relay For Life events at Hampton-Dumont High School raised additional funds to help fight cancer.

The events began with a sack dinner to-go meal that was provided for a free will offering. The Franklin County Cattlemen grilled hamburgers, which were included as part of the meal.

Proceeds from the event, which was held prior to a car cruise and scavenger hunt throughout the county, amounted to over $1,500.

Relay For Life chairman Sheri Bogue said approximately 30 cars took part in the cruise, with 10 drivers turning in cards for the scavenger hunt.

Among the participants in the cruise were honorary Relay For Life Co-Chairs, Kelly Reynolds, of Hampton, and Connie Deam, of Sheffield.

“Those turning in cards said they had a good time. The scavenger hunt was hard, but there were a lot of smiles when they returned to the high school,” Bogue said.

The overall winner of the scavenger hunt was Toni Wilkenson.

At the conclusion of the Cruise, Betty and the Gents presented a virtual concert on the Relay For Life Facebook page.

Also conducted throughout the week were a number of other special events.

First Bank of Hampton coordinated a Silent Auction, which brought in $2,616.

The Radio on the Go Phone-a-Thon, which took place Friday, raised $11,210.

The Barkema Charitable Foundation provided $15,000.

As of Saturday, the Relay For Life has raised a total of $56,700, with additional funds continuing to be compiled.
