A frustrating crop season is close to wrapping up in Franklin County.
According to the USDA’s weekly crop report released Monday, Nov. 18, 86 percent of corn crops and 99 percent of soybeans had been harvested from fields in North Central Iowa.
Angie Rieck-Hinz, field agronomist with Iowa State University Extension, said that the corn harvest is behind its normal pace this time of year due to late planting in the spring, persistent wet weather in the fall and a propane shortage that has prevented farmers from drying corn.
