West Fork Dance Team to compete at national meet

Coming off their back-to-back state titles, the West Fork Dance Team is taking their routines to the national level. The team will be competing at the DX AmeriCup Competition in Minneapolis, Minnesota, this weekend. The Competition will be held Friday through Sunday at the Minneapolis Hilton Downtown.

The AmeriCup brings in national level talent from across the United States, Canada and Mexico, all competing for titles, as well as providing opportunities for individuals and small groups.

The event kicks off with the signature “Purple Party”, master classes and All American and Performer of the Year interviews and talent presentations.

The Semi-Formal DX AmeriCup Program is always a favorite, as attendees dress up for a night of performances, academic recognition, announcement of individual accomplishments and concludes with a semi-formal dance.

Individuals may opt to compete in the DX All-American Talent & Scholastic competition, DX Performer of the Year, and the Leap, Turn & Trick DX Super Star events. Recognition for DX Spirit & Sportsmanship, DX Coach Of The Year and DX Hall of Fame Inductees are also presented at the Awards Program. DX awards prizes that include rings, scholarships, medals, banners and more.

On Friday, the West Fork Dance Team will attend master classes, classes taught by the judges in showmanship and pom, to enhance and build on their current skills. They will then have a team lunch at Hell’s Kitchen, a restaurant made popular by the television show of the same name. The rest of the day will be spent preparing for the competition and attending a “Purple Party” with fellow dancers.

The team will perform their Pom routine at approximately 11:48 a.m. on Saturday, which awards at 1 p.m. That night the team will attend a program where they will receive an Academic Excellence Award for having a team GPA above 3.50.

On Sunday, the team’s Hip Hop routine will be performed at approximately 12:24 p.m., with awards following at 2:15 p.m. After that, the team will head home, hopefully with some National hardware to show for all their hard work and effort this season.
