Wendell Dean Schmitt, 94, of Hampton, Iowa, passed away peacefully in his sleep on November 25, 2021, at Franklin Country View Nursing Facility in Hampton, Iowa. Wendell was born on February 22, 1927 in Hampton, Iowa to Walter R. and Vera L.(Freie) Schmitt. He graduated from Hampton High School in 1944. On December 10, 1947, Wendell was united in marriage to Dorothy Christine Rodemeyer and to this union they had three children - David, Mary Lynne, and Jeryl. Wendell was baptized, confirmed and a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church where he participated in men’s organizations, including dart ball. He farmed all of his life raising livestock and crops, enjoyed Iowa State University sporting events, playing cribbage, attending grandchildren events, and became an avid woodworker creating many fine clocks and objects for family and friends.

Wendell leaves behind to cherish his memory his son David (Connie) Schmitt, daughter Mary Lynne Schmitt, daughter-in-law Jane Schmitt, grandchildren Laura (Brad) Copeland of Katy, Texas, Cameron (Cassie) Schmitt of Independence, Iowa, and Jeff (Lori) Schmitt of Iowa Falls, Iowa, and seven great-grandchildren (Logan, Keegan, Ethan Schmitt; Tyler Copeland; and Tara, Luke, Emma Schmitt.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Dorothy of 52 years, son Jeryl, sister Elaine Behn and brother Duane Schmitt.
