Virginia June (Andersen) Hurd, 94

Virginia June (Andersen) Hurd, 94, longtime resident of rural Alden/Popejoy, died peacefully at Scenic Manor in Iowa Falls, Iowa on November 14th, 2021.



Funeral services will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 18, 2021, at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, Iowa Falls, IA. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services. Burial will be in the St. Mark’s Catholic Cemetery immediately following services. Funeral arrangements are under the guidance of the Surls Funeral Home in Iowa Falls.



The daughter of Chris and Marie Andersen, Virginia was born in Moorhead, IA near the family’s home farm in Avoca on June 3, 1927. She was the youngest of 7 children.



At age 8, the family moved to the Clear Lake area. When Virginia was in 7th grade, her family moved again to a farm outside of Popejoy.



Virginia attended high school in Popejoy where she met and later married Eugene Hurd. They went on to farm together south of Popejoy for the next 68 years. They raised 3 children.



Virginia always worked right alongside Gene with all the farming. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and feeding all who would sit at her table. She took great pride in her home and made it welcoming to all family and friends. She also enjoyed winters in Florida, traveling, playing cards and fishing.



Virginia is survived by her three children, Leslie (Doris) of Sheffield, Bill (Colleen) of Huxley, Joanne (Bob) Williams of Waukee, 10 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, 6 step great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and brothers and sisters: Josephine Johnson, Viola Cook, Grant, Adolph (Bud), Dick and Dorothy Blomberg.
