Velda Ellen Allen, 81

Velda Ellen Allen, age 81, of Verona, Missouri, passed away at 3:11 a.m. on Thursday, March 17, 2022, at the Mercy Hospital in Aurora, Missouri. She was born February 28, 1941, in Bell, California, the daughter of William Henry and Vivian Ruby (Vandorn) Roever.

Velda was a 1959 graduate of Janesville High School in Janesville, Iowa, and received her nursing degree from Allen College of Nursing in Waterloo, Iowa. She started her nursing career as a nurse at the Dumont Nursing Home in Dumont, Iowa and was the Director of Nursing before she and her husband Robert moved to Missouri. She retired after 20 years from Mercy Hospital in Aurora, where she worked as an Operating Room Technician. She was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church in Janesville, Iowa.

On June 18, 1961, she married Robert Leroy Allen, in Janesville, Iowa.

Velda is survived by her husband of 60 years, Robert; two sons, James Allen and his wife, Lexie, of Des Moines, Iowa and John Allen and his wife, Ruthann of Fairbanks, Alaska; one brother, Edward Roever and his wife, Toshimi, of Honolulu, Hawaii; two grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Vivian; daughter, Verlane Godfrey and sister Vonda Steffen.

A visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 24, 2022, at the Crafton-Cantrell Funeral Home in Aurora, Missouri, with a memorial service to follow at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be held at a later date at Harlan Cemetery in Dumont, Iowa.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be payable to JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) in care of the funeral home.
