Second case of COVID-19 in Franklin County confirmed

A second case of COVID-19 has been confirmed in Franklin County. Franklin County Public Health on Friday afternoon issued a release stating Public Health and the Iowa Department of Public Health identified one additional case in the county. The individual is self-isolating at home. No further information regarding the individual has been released.

The first case was confirmed on Sunday, April 5.

With the second case confirmed in the county, Ashley Roberts, Franklin County Public Health Director, urged area residents to remain vigilant with social distancing practices and hygiene.

“We want to continue to remind residents to take preventative measures to slow the spread of this virus,” she said. “It’s important for everyone to stay home as much as possible and to practice social distancing.”

Residents are advised to stay home and leave only for essential errands such as groceries or medication. Only one person per household should run errands if possible. Residents are also urged to stay home when even mildly ill, cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or elbow and to wash hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
