Ronald (Ronnie) Pals

Ronald (Ronnie) Pals, 91, of Hampton, passed away Saturday, June 28, 2025, at the Rehabilitation Center of Hampton. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m, Thursday, July 3, at Faith Baptist Church, Hampton. Interment will follow at the Hampton Cemetery. Woodley Funeral Home and Crematory, Hampton, is caring for Ron and his family. Visitation will be 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, at Woodley Funeral Home and Crematory.

Ronald Dean Pals was born May 8, 1934, at Meservey,  son of Harm and Reka (Kuehlers) Pals. Ron was born a blue baby with a defective heart valve and not expected to live past the age of 5. This defect limited physical childhood activities as he was growing up. In 1963, he was one of the first patients at Mayo Clinic to have life changing heart surgery that would correct the birth defect and give him the opportunity to live a full long life.

On October 28, 1960, Ron married Shirley Duryee in Marble Rock. They made their home in Hampton where they were blessed with three children. Ron worked at Maytag until the company moved to Newton. Ron and Shirley enjoyed camping and spending time with family and friends. In later life, Ron’s favorite pastime was tractor rides with his buddies and coffee at Hardee’s catching up on the local ‘news’. Ron loved a good practical joke and never took himself too seriously. Ron was a born again Christian and actively involved in his church as a deacon and Sunday School teacher.

Those left to remember Ron are his children: Mike (Marcee Sidmore) Pals; Jan (Dale) Hoffmann; Dwight Pals; grandchildren Rob (Katie) Hoffmann; Danell (Andy) Steward; Dustin (Nicole) Hoffmann; Deseree Horan; 9 great grandchildren and his nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Shirley Pals, great grandson Johnathan, brother Eldon, sister-in-law Lola, nephews Bruce and Bob, brother-in-law Murlyn (Pete) Duryee, sister-in-law Louise Duryee, and brother-in-law Rich Fear.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to the Rehabilitation Center of Hampton for their excellent care of their father over the last three years, as well as Hospice over the last few months.
