Roger DuWayne Corbin

Roger DuWayne Corbin was born September 7, 1921, in Hampton, Iowa, son of Frank and Nettie (Hunt) Corbin. He attended grade and high school in Hampton, where he graduated with the class of 1939. Roger attended Coe College in Cedar Rapids, until enlisting in the U.S. Army during World War II. Later, he completed his education at Dunwoody Institute of Technology in Minneapolis. 

Roger served his country during World War II for 40 months, serving in India and Panama. He received his honorable discharge from the Army on January 7, 1946.

On December 24, 1942, Roger was united in marriage to Betty Jo Goodenberger at the Post Chapel at Fort Monroe, Virginia. Five children were born to this union. Betty died on January 12, 1959, of cancer. Later, Roger married Janice Shroyer of Hampton, Iowa. In 1963, they moved with their family to Traer. Jan died on May 9, 2024. 

Roger had his own Plumbing and Heating business in Latimer until 1959. He then worked for Darrell Dillon Inc. in Hampton, Iowa until 1970. From 1970, until his retirement, he worked for Bankers Life & Casualty Insurance. After retirement, Roger delivered Winnebago Motor Homes to dealers across the country. He was an active member of American Legion for over 75 years and was Commander for two years of the Kubik- Finch Post 142 in Traer. Roger was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Traer Golf Club, past member, and past president of the Traer Lions Club and served on the Traer Library Board for many years. He was also a poem writer and shared his talent with family, friends, and the community.

Roger passed away on September 20, 2024, at the age of 103, at Sunrise Hill Care Center. He is preceded in death by his wives; two daughters, Rella Jean Shipman, and Barbara Whitesell; one son, James Robert Shroyer; his parents; a grandson, Daniel Huting; son-in-law, Thomas Whitesell and daughter-in-law, Lois (Konicek) Corbin.

Roger is survived by his children, Michael R. (Barbara) Corbin of Owasso, Oklahoma, Dennis J. Corbin of Rose Hill, Kansas, Paul A. (Kathy) Corbin of Lakeville, Minnesota, and Donald A. (Barbara) Shroyer of Hudson, Iowa; 17 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

Memorial Visitation: Monday, September 30, 2024, from 9:00 am to 10:00 am at the Traer United Methodist Church, 712 4th St., Traer, Iowa. 

Memorial Service: Monday, September 30, 2024, at 10:00 am at the Traer United Methodist Church

Burial: Hampton Cemetery in Hampton, Iowa. Where there will be Military Rites conducted by the Kubik-Finch American Legion Post # 142
