Pam Harvey

Pam Harvey, 66, of Sheffield, passed away on Wednesday, August 21, 2024 at her home in Sheffield. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 28, 2024 at Zion St. John Lutheran Church in Sheffield with burial in the Hillside Cemetery in Sheffield. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday at the church. Funeral arrangements are under the guidance of the Sietsema-Atkinson Funeral Home in Hampton.

Pam was born December 31, 1957, in Mason City, Iowa. She was the third child of Raynard and Maxine Harvey of Sheffield. She attended Zion St John Lutheran Church, was baptized in 1958, and confirmed in 1973. She actively participated and volunteered in many church activities, remaining a faithful follower of God until her untimely death on August 21, 2024.

In 1976 Pam graduated from Sheffield-Chapin High School. She attended NIACC and began working with North Iowa Community Action. She spent a number of years with Principal Insurance. Then began working in a local veterinarian’s office. Since 2012 she has been employed by the Mason City Community School District, and in 2017 became a Paraprofessional at Lincoln Intermediate School. In the summers she joined the school district’s painting crew to freshen up the schools.

She was a devoted caregiver to her mother, Maxine Harvey, at the family farm and continued caring for her at Deerfield Assisted Living. Pam made certain her mom didn’t miss any church activities, family gatherings and holiday events. She loved her immediate family. Especially watching her niece and nephew and their children as they grew up.

Pam was very proud of her Norwegian heritage, whether it was the clothes she wore or the traditional Christmas goodies she baked. She rarely missed a trip to Decorah during Nordic Fest. She often told tales of her “cousins’ trip” to Norway and Europe. Pam would seek out anything “Scandinavian” including enjoying Norwegian Dinners at Midwest churches.

It’s been said, “Compassion for animals is intimately associated with goodness of character.” Pam’s entire life revolved around her love of animals and her love of the outdoors. She loved her little family of Elle and Lucky, her two cats who lived with her and faithfully fed the feral cats at the farm. Pam shared her love of Panda, her sister’s pet dog and was happy to dog-sit.

She was dependable, generous and a very hard worker. She had a no-fuss, no-muss, roll up your sleeves and “git-r-done” attitude. Pam has always been committed to helping others. She was a prolific volunteer in her spiritual activities and her community events. You would find her backstage at NIACC performances, Community Theatre undertakings , MacNider Art Museum festival and various functions through her church. She treated everyone like family, and she had many – her church family, her work family, her very-close friends and their families, as well as the family she was born into.

She attended County Extension Trips, NIACC continuing education courses and classes at Central Gardens of North Iowa. Many involved the outdoors and gardening techniques. She was planning to grow a little business in her retirement years to have a larger garden and grow vegetables and flowers.

She didn’t really laugh out loud, but had a contagious and familiar giggle. Pam loved puns, had a dry sense of humor and a unique “right back atcha” quick wit. She had a twinkle in her eye when she was about to surprise someone or do something a little mischievous.

Pam fancied anything chocolate! She loved country western music and took line dancing lessons. You would even find her younger self on a coworkers’ bowling team. She was a Star Trek fan! She loved playing card games, especially Skip-Bo and Kings-In-A-Corner. And there were also “girlfriends’ day-trips” or weekends where they would all get in the car and travel to fun places.

Pam enjoyed Fairs. She attended many Craft Fairs all over the Midwest. From there she got ideas to create giveaways or party favors to her students, friends and family. Pam always seemed to have a “project” going. She would rarely miss the Franklin County Fair and the Iowa State Fair was always on her list to attend if she could.

She is survived by sister, Marcia “Cookie” Harvey, brother, Randy (Jean) Harvey, nephew, Daniel (Stephanie) Harvey, niece, Krista (Tony) Albaugh, great-nephews, Hudson Harvey, Eli Harvey, Karsten Albaugh, and great-niece, Addison Albaugh.
