Muriel Muessigmann was born on January 29, 1928 the daughter of George and Nancy (Krull) Abbas. She was baptized on July 7, 1929. Muriel attended country school through the 8th grade. On September 23, 1945 Muriel was united in marriage to Clarence O. Muessigmann, at the Grant Center Lutheran Church in rural Iowa Falls, Iowa.
As a young woman, Muriel cleaned homes until she married and then moved to the Muessigmann family farm south of Geneva where she and Clarence farmed together and raised their family. Muriel lived on the farm throughout their 60 years of married life and moved to Ackley shortly before Clarence’s passing in December 2005. She then resided in Ackley for 12 years before moving to the Heritage Care Center in Iowa Falls.
Our beautiful mother loved life and being surrounded by family, friends, and neighbors. She was one of those special people who “sparkled” in any social gathering which was often reflected in her blue eyes, warm smile, and infectious voice. Together, Mom and Dad were the perfect blend. Wherever they were, they loved a great time – be it with friends and neighbors stopping over for coffee daily, playing cards loudly, snowmobiling at a moment’s notice, fishing at Lake Rathbun, out dancing on Saturday nights or in the living room. She loved country and western music and, often recalled good times playing the guitar and singing in her brother LeRoy’s band, the Country Breeze. Muriel enjoyed anytime her family was together and she made those times special and lively, with loads of food, especially at Christmas, her favorite holiday.
Along with the joy, church was at the center of our home. Mom displayed a strong faith, taking her vows to join the Lutheran church in 1953 very seriously for the remainder of her life. With the passing of each of her siblings, our world became quieter, when she too passed, our world became silent, until we hear her voice again.
Muriel Muessigmann is survived by three daughters, Patricia (Jerry) Dakin of Ames, Iowa, Pamela (Steve) Harkema of Hampton, Iowa and Penney (Brent) Wilson of Ankeny, Iowa; grandchildren: Brent Dakin, Travis (Becky) Dakin, Craig (Heather) Harkema, Chad (Jamie) Harkema, Chloe (Kian) Wilson-Khanjani, Quinn Wilson and Eli Wilson; great grandchildren: Avery, Sophia and Olivia Dakin, Ben and Carlos Dakin, Alexis Harkema, Easton and Oakley Harkema; a sister, Annie (Kenneth) Kuper and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Clarence Muessigmann; grandson, Trenton Dakin; her parents, George and Nancy Abbas and her siblings: Henry (Lucille) Abbas, Melvin (Alma) Abbas, Carl (Vylas) Abbas, LeRoy (Jan) Abbas, Viola (Fred) Voy, Irene (Hans) Rau, Nancy (Don) Silver, Marie Hinders and an infant sister and several nieces and nephews.
