The Windsor Theatre premiered their first public showing of a recent movie release after more than a year on hiatus on Friday, June 11.

With movie showings canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the theatre screen has seen little use over the last year. Independent films were shown last June and the theater tried running classic movies in July, but low attendance due to the pandemic put regularly scheduled movies on hold.

That changed on Friday with the premiere of Disney's "Cruella."

With a new sound system installed and new projector software to become familiarized with, it took a little bit of work to get the theater ready to go but everything was fine by show time and more than 50 people arrived to see the first showing and a total of 144 coming in over the weekend.

"Patrons are all very happy to be back," said manager Jim Davies. "I would like to thank everyone for their support of the Windsor during the shutdown with monetary donations and purchase of curbside popcorn. Curbside popcorn sales will be discontinued, but people are welcome to temporarily park under the marquee when movies are being played and come in to purchase popcorn to go."

While movies are back, it will still be some time before everything returns to normal. Currently, theatrical movie showings are scheduled for Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays only.

Theatrical movies aren't the only weekend events scheduled at the theatre either. The Franklin County Arts Council will have a live production of "The Baker Street Irregulars" next week from July 23-25.
