Melvin E. Kew, 93

Melvin E. Kew, 93, of Sheffield, Iowa, died Tuesday, November 16, 2021, at the MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City, Iowa.  He was born November 30, 1927, in Franklin County, Iowa, to John and Saddie (Bobst) Kew.  

Melvin attended rural Franklin County Country School in Franklin County.  He was united in marriage to Elaine Lembke.  Melvin worked as a farmer all of his life.  He enjoyed farming, the outdoors, and working on gas engines, tractors, and cars.  In his younger years, he enjoyed roller skating.

Melvin is survived by his son David Kew of Hampton, daughter Barbara (Duane) Alitz of Albert Lea, Minnesota, son Glenn Kew of Hampton, son Jack Kew of Hampton, grandchildren Travis Alitz of Albert Lea, Minnesota, and Amanda Alitz of Tennessee, five great-grandchildren, and sister Wanda Miller of Hampton. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, brothers John, Frank, and Marlo, sister Elizabeth.

A visitation was held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, November 19, 2021, at Sietsema Vogel Funeral Home in Hampton. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, November 20, 2021, at Sietsema Vogel Funeral Home in Hampton.
