Matilda ‘Tillie’ Nelson

Matilda ‘Tillie’ Nelson, 96, of Hampton, passed away Monday, May 5, 2025, at Franklin General Hospital, Hampton. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, May 12, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Hampton. Burial will be at the Hampton Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, 3:00 – 5:00 p.m., at Woodley Funeral Home, 306 Central Ave. E., Hampton.
Matilda Anna Kracht was born with her twin sister, Mildred, on September 25, 1928, in Hampton, daughters of John and Edna (Meyer) Kracht. Millie and Tillie attended Greenwood Country School, Hampton through the 8th grade.
On April 20, 1947, Tillie was united in marriage with Walter Nelson at Trinity Lutheran Church, Hampton. She worked as a farmer’s wife and was a waitress at the Gold Key for 10 years and Fays Restaurant for 20 years, retiring in 1998.
Tillie was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and was active in the Ladies Aide and Esther Circle. She enjoyed bowling in the winters and playing golf in the summers. She also played cards (500) in the Hospital Axillary and with friends and family.
Left with precious memories are her son: Roger Nelson, Hampton; grandson: Steven Nelsen, Hampton; granddaughters: Christy (Casey) Waddell, Mason City; Stacy (Dale) Raisch, Hampton; granddaughter-in-law: Cari Nelsen, Texas; brothers: Raymond Kracht, Dows; Marvin (Carol) Kracht, Hampton; great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She is preceded by her husband Walter, daughter Connie Lampkin, son Robert Nelsen, twin sister Mildred Menning, sister Elfrieda Pralle and her parents.
