Lyle M. Etnier was born on September 25, 1940 in Hampton, Iowa to Donald and Lelah (Alden) Etnier. He finished with his schooling after eighth grade to farm. On September 27, 1964, Lyle was united in marriage to Delina Garth in the Webster City Church of Christ.

Lyle and Delina lived on a farm near Sheffield and later moved to the farm where Delina originally was raised that became the family home. Lyle enjoyed living on the farm with their family of six children. He had so much pride and dedicated his life to his family and his farm. It wasn’t just “his” farm of livestock and crops; it was “our” farm. All family members had a part and chores to keep the farm going.

Lyle was born to be a farmer and fulfilled his dream of starting his farm from nothing to a successful farming business. He juggled multiple roles, from a family man to a laborer and to a business manager of the farm. He was a lifelong steward of the land-prioritizing conservation and sustainable methods not to harm but preserve the land for the next generation along with the best care for his livestock. Lyle took pride in all he had done and achieved. His belief was “You don’t get anything that you do not work hard for and it needs to be done the right way.” This is so true and it showed through his actions through the good and bad times of farming conditions. He put in long hours starting before dawn and continuing until after sunset.

Lyle’s love for the farm was also matched by his love for his neighbors and friends. He was known for his unwavering work ethic, his big heart to help everyone and a generous spirit-whether lending a hand during harvest, helping a farmer when and where needed, and always quick to help someone in need. Dad would say, “Always a lot to do but there is always enough time to help others when needed.”

Lyle is survived by his daughters Tammy (Mike) Christianson of Alexandria, Minnesota, Vicki (Jim) Tuttle of Cedar Falls, Penny (Lance) Teisinger of Dunkerton, Marilyn (Shane) Krukow of Iowa Falls and Deb (Lonnie) Barkema of Sheffield, son Lon (Rachael) Etnier of Sheffield, sisters Clara Jean Smith of Des Moines, Linda Newman of Arkansas, Sharon St. Clare of Arkansas, brothers Dallas (Jane) Etnier of Sheffield, Donald Etnier Jr of Florida, Ronnie (Pauline) Hardman of Ackley, Ron Green of Wyoming, Kenny (Judy) Hardman of Arkansas, Darrell (Deb) Hardman of Arkansas, 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Delina, his parents and his granddaughter, Carli Teisinger.
