Lila Borneman, 96

Lila Borneman, 96, of Dumont, passed away Wednesday, October 13, 2021, at the Waverly Health Center. She was born February 1, 1925, the daughter of Jans and Gertrude (Bohlen) Miller.

Lila attended schools in Aplington. On October 28, 1944, she was united in marriage to August Borneman in Dumont. To this union, three sons were born. Lila was the definition of a farmer’s wife; she raised her children and helped her husband on the farm. Together they raised chickens, hogs and cattle. She often said she spent many an hour cleaning eggs. Lila also babysat other children for over 25 years.

She enjoyed playing cards and going with Julie to the card parties in Dumont at the Legion and in Hansell. She could beat you about every time in Yahtzee too. She really enjoyed reading and loved the Farm & Ranch and Country magazines. She enjoyed watching baseball with her brother Rueben and baking, especially the sugar (sandy) cookies her sons and great-grandson love. Lila was a member of the New Hope United Methodist Parish in Dumont.

Lila is survived by her son Doug (Darla) Borneman of Dumont; son Dalton (Lorraine) Borneman of Belle Plaine, Minnesota; granddaughter Julie (Kris) Kramm of Nora Springs; grandson Jason (Kari) Borneman of Belle Plaine, Minnesota; great-grandchildren Alexander Kramm of Mason City, Samantha (Jordan) Kramm of Mason City and Alexandra Borneman of Belle Plaine, Minnesota; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband August Borneman, son Dean Borneman, grandson David Borneman, daughter-in-law Ann Borneman, sisters Henrietta Meinders, Jennie Bohn and Lela True, brothers Herman Miller, Joe Miller and Rueben Miller.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Thursday, October 21, 2021, at the Sietsema Vogel Funeral Home in Dumont. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 22, 2021, at the New Hope United Methodist Parish in Dumont. Burial will take place in the Dumont Cemetery.
