Janet Meyer
Janet Meyer, 81, of Alexander, passed away on Sunday, October 27, 2024 at the Rehabilitation Center of Hampton. Funeral services were held on Friday, November 1, 2024 at the Immanuel United Church of Christ in Latimer with burial in the Marion Center Cemetery in rural Latimer. Funeral arrangements were under the guidance of the Sietsema-Atkinson Funeral Home in Hampton.
Janet Louise Meyer was born May 22, 1943, to Gerald and Evelyn Mae Newcomb, in Chicago, Illinois.
They later relocated to Cedar Rapids, Iowa. At the age of twelve, Janet was adopted by Verna Schomburg Fahrmann and her husband Laverne Fahrmann. She gained twin brothers, Dean and Dennis and they all lived together on their family farm in Latimer, Iowa.
Janet graduated from St Paul’s Lutheran School in Latimer from 8th grade at the age of 14, and then graduated from CAL Community School in 1963. This is where she met the love of her life, Lawrence Ervin Meyer. After going steady for a few years, they both graduated, and got married at the Lutheran Church on June 6, 1965, by Reverend Marks. The newlyweds drove to Des Moines for dinner at McDonalds and then headed for Denver, Colorado for their honeymoon.
Janet and Lawrence had three daughters, Tamara, Rhonda Kay, and Susan. They lived on a farm in Alexander, Iowa where Janet loved caring for the mother sows and baby pigs. She had a daycare in her home, worked as a nurse’s aide at the rehabilitation center in Hampton, the chicken farm, sold Amway, and was always available to help her daughters with their homework.
In 2012, Lawrence and Janet bought a house in Latimer. Before his passing, the two spent ten years together at this home. Janet enjoyed spending time with her dog, Dolly, going to casinos, and watching Western shows.
Janet is survived by her daughter Tamara (Ron) Miller, daughter Rhonda Kay Meyer, daughter Susan (Pete) Grett, grandchildren Ray (Shannon) Mennenga, Cole (Hinda) Mennenga, Brandon Grett and Taylor Grett, step grandchildren Darrin Miller, Brittni (Melvin) Sandoval, Tanner (Sarah) Miller and Christian (Audrey) Miller, and eight great-grandchildren
She was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence Meyer, her grandson Andrew Mennenga, parents and brothers and sisters.
