Hy-Vee’s Dollar Fresh to open in Hampton next Tuesday

A new shopping destination in Hampton is set to open next week.

Hy-Vee Stores on Tuesday, June 30 will celebrate the grand opening of the Dollar Fresh store in Hampton, located in the former Shopko building.

Dollar Fresh is a newer format store introduced by Hy-Vee in 2018 targeted towards smaller communities with retail needs.

Kevin Mills, Vice President of the Dollar Fresh brand, said the Hampton store will contain the fresh produce and a selection of grocery items familiar to Hy-Vee shoppers, but will include much more in order to give the Dollar Fresh store a one-stop feel. Shoppers will find home meal replacements, a food counter with made-to-order food and heat up meals, DSW shoes, HBC beauty items, a clothing department and other merchandise, as well as a wine and spirits section.

“There are lots of items in some cases that a small community may not have and we’re trying to fill a void with some of these categories,” Mills said.

Newton Grotzinger, Greater Franklin County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director, said Dollar Fresh will be an added asset not only for Hampton residents, but area travelers as well.

“I think having Dollar Fresh coming to town will be a good addition to our community,” he said. “It will bring additoinal people to town, add variety to grocery shopping filling an empty building is always great.

“I wish them and all our grocery suppliers the best in the coming year.”

Although Dollar Fresh is under the Hy-Vee umbrella, Mills said Dollar Fresh is its own brand, which will be apparent to shoppers. Dollar Fresh will have its own weekly ads with deals and specials throughout the store independent of Hy-Vee promotions.

“The way we’ve built the stores and structured the plan, our intent is to have really low prices and really fresh food presented in a different way, in a different format,” he said. People will like the low price and the quality they get.”

The opening of the new Dollar Fresh coincides with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, but Mills said safety measures will be included upon the store’s opening. Social distancing messaging and signage, such as aisle directions will be installed and sanitation stations will be available. Staff will also operate with increased cleaning schedules.

He said Hy-Vee has eliminated the dedicated hour for at-risk customers, but those who would like can visit Hy-Vee Aisles Online and fill out an order to pick up curbside.

Dollar Fresh will officially open at 7 a.m. Tuesday, June 30. Hours of operation will be 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week.

Mills said he hopes Hampton – and area – shoppers enjoy the new store and see what the Dollar Fresh format has to offer.

“It’d be great if everyone could come out,” he said. “People will really like what we have, the convenience, the low price and the quality they will get.

“We are excited,” he added.
