The students of the HD-CAL Drama club pulled off a stunning performance of “Into the Woods Jr" at the Church of the Living Word over the weekend.

Kolette Janssen, who took over as the director of the department earlier this year, said the students had a lot of fun and that it showed on stage while they were performing, adding that they had a record-breaking attendance on the first night. They performed both Friday and Saturday night at the Church of the Living Word.

“They left each night feeling proud of themselves and their performance,” Janssen said. “I am so impressed by the amount of talent that our high school has. Every single cast and crew member brought their own unique abilities, personality, and talent to the stage (and behind stage), and it all came together to put on a phenomenal show! I am so proud of them!”

The production told the story of a baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King's festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a witch's curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse.

The following students appeared in the musical: Lily Byrnes, Ana Lopez, Wael al Habarie, Gabe Espejo, Felipe Velica, Eva Dohlman. Noe Flores, America Dominguez, Elian Trevino, Jaliyah Ivey, Gerardo Flores, Chloe Craighton, Natalie Birdsell, Meg Dunwald, Shakira Vela Maza, Spencer McClintock, Mady Schrock, James Chambers, Reed Masters, Gabe Arndorfer, Jackson Opperman and Tammy Schirmer.
