Elizabeth (Betty) Mary Doughan

Elizabeth (Betty) Mary Doughan of Hampton, Iowa, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2024, at her home in Chanhassen, Minnesota surrounded by family and friends.  Woodley Funeral Home of Hampton is caring for Betty and her family.

Betty was born on November 18, 1935, to parents Thomas and Dorothy (Hilbert) Becker, in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Betty attended Wesley High School in Wesley, Iowa, and lived most of her life in Clarion and Hampton.

Betty was a diligent and dedicated bookkeeper, and left an indelible mark on those she worked with at Dressman’s Egg Hatchery, Clarion Clinic, and A.M. Saylor Inc. Her meticulous attention to detail and unwavering commitment to her craft earned her respect and admiration from colleagues and clients alike. 

Betty married Roger Doughan on August 2, 1955, in Wesley, and were together 56 years until the time of Roger’s passing on July 22, 2012.

Always active in the community, Betty was a dedicated member of the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church community in Hampton. She was a member of the TTT society, Red Hat Society, As You Like It organization, and Franklin County Hospital Auxiliary. In her free time, Betty was an avid bridge player, book reader and found immense joy in meeting with her coffee sisters. She was renowned for her exceptional baking skills (pies, cookies, breads and more), delighting everyone with their favorite treats made with love and care.  

Betty is survived by her sister Diane (Jim) Weisbrod of Algona, Iowa, sister-in-law Linda Becker of Marion, Iowa, son Tom of Gaylord, Minnesota, daughter Sue (Brian) Lubben of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, daughter Anne (Scott) Swain of Bluffton, South Carolina, and daughter Nancy (Joe) Jansen of Victoria, Minnesota.  Betty and Roger were blessed with five grandchildren, Becker and Emma Lubben, Liz (Dylan) Larson, Allie Jansen, Shelby Swain, and many nieces and nephews.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband Roger, parents Thomas and Dorothy, brothers Bernard, Maurice, and Martin, and sister Joanne Manternach. 

Betty greatly enjoyed annual vacations to the family cabin in northern Minnesota as well as trips to Disneyworld and Ireland.  Betty and Roger enjoyed regular visits to Scottsdale, Arizona and Door County, Wisconsin. Betty will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and community. 

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 23, 2024, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Hampton with Father Kevin Earleywine officiating.  Visitation will be that morning from 9:00 a.m. until service time.  Betty will be laid to rest at the Hampton Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, please direct memorials to the family.
