Douglas John Hansen

October 28, 1957 – January 25, 2024

Doug Hansen was born and raised in Iowa, living in Hampton with his parents, Roger and JoAnn Hansen, and his younger brother, Jim. Doug graduated from Hampton High School and the University of Northern Iowa, where he was on the wrestling team and a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.

Doug met Deb Hoveland in college and they married in 1982, moving to Santa Monica and Portland before making the Carlsbad/Encinitas area home for 35+ years. Over the past 41 years, Doug and Deb enjoyed wine tasting in Napa, hosting friends at their home, cheering on the Padres, and seeing their favorite bands perform. In 1989, Doug and Deb welcomed their daughter, Alyssa. Doug loved being a dad, exuding patience and incorporating fun into lessons of schoolwork, driving, investing, interviewing, and the art of closing a deal.

Doug worked for Professional Office Services for nearly 20 years in Southern California. In 2000, Doug pivoted from the healthcare printing industry to enterprise software sales when he joined Hyperion Software. Doug earned many club trips and was the 2006 Global Sales Rep of the Year. Professionally, Doug was a compassionate leader and maintained strong relationships through his career in the software industry.

Doug enjoyed vacations in Hualalai, annual Canada fishing trips with his college friends, and taking sunset photos from his back yard. His favorite hobby was golf – with family in Hampton, and Sundays with friends.

Doug was a beloved husband, father, son, brother, and uncle. He is survived by his wife Deb; his daughter Alyssa and her husband Christ Talambas; his dad Roger Hansen; his brother Jim Hansen; and several nieces and nephews and their families. He is predeceased by his mom, JoAnn Hansen.

Doug’s memory will be forever cherished by those fortunate enough to know him. Though he left us too soon, Doug’s spirit will live on in our hearts.
