Donald Harken

Donald Harken, 87, of Hampton, passed away on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at Franklin Country View in Hampton. A private burial will be held at the Hampton Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m. on Friday, February 28, 2025 at the Sietsema-Atkinson Funeral Home in Hampton. 

Don was born on May 30, 1937 and is the son of Jake and Lydia Harken. He graduated from Ackley High School. On May 15, 1959 he married Betty Rops in Austinville. Don farmed most of his life until he moved to Hampton in 2011. He enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, watching all of their extracurricular sporting events. He was an avid sports lover and loved the game of golf and bowling.

Don is survived by his daughters Laurie (Gordon) Greimann of Hampton, Donna (Jim) Bergman of Ames and Jolene (Brad) Liekweg of Iowa Falls. Grandchildren Tyler (Erin) Toomsen, Nick (Anna) Toomsen, Abby (Tyler) Baltes, Haley (Zach) Merfeld, Alyssa (Ryan) Mills, Jordan (Sara) Bergman, Zach (Dawn) Liekweg, Jake (Brittany) Liekweg, great grand-children Luke, Nolan & Brody Toomsen, Cooper, Emma & Spencer Toomsen, Brinlee, Hudson & Lennyn Baltes, Ryder Merfeld, Quinn and Trace Mills, Elsie, Micah, Jonah & Lydia Bergman, Deegan & Jaedalyn Liekweg, Drake Henrichs, Kolt, Brock & Lane Liekweg, sister-in-law Frances (Floyd) Hook, Dennis (Rhonda) Rops, Jeanette Rops and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Betty, his parents, his father and mother-in-law John and Lula Rops, sisters and brothers-in law; Valda (Arlo) Dougan, Marvin (Verla) Rops, JoAnn (Gene) Beving, Mary (Junior) Ascher and LaDonna Rops.
